Drivers to be fined this winter for using their engine to defrost car windscreens

As Edinburgh prepares to be hit with icy this week and snow falls across Scotland, drivers have been warned that they could face fines for using their car engine to defrost their windscreen.

And although it can be tempting to speed up your windscreen defrosting by leaving your engine on, it could come with a price tag.

Drivers caught with their engine idling in order to defrost their cars may be hit with a £20 fixed penalty notice, experts have warned.

Five dead, 40 wounded as car hits Wisconsin Christmas parade | News

A car has ploughed through a Christmas parade in the US state of Wisconsin, killing five and injuring at least 40 people, according to the City of Waukesha.

The incident occurred at around 4:39pm (22:39 GMT) on Sunday in Waukesha, about 32 kilometres (20 miles) west of Milwaukee.

Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly told reporters the city had “faced horror and tragedy in what should have been a community celebration”.

“I’m deeply saddened to know that so many in our community went to the parade but ended up dealing with injury and heartache,” Reilly said.
