Greenville County Schools COVID-19 numbers updated on dashboard, district says
The Greenville County School District said its student COVID-19 dashboard was updated Tuesday. Staff worked
The Greenville County School District said its student COVID-19 dashboard was updated Tuesday. Staff worked through the weekend to update the backlog of student COVID-19 reports, said district spokesperson Tim Waller. As of Monday, Waller said 370 students are isolating and 2,329 students are in quarantine. “Quarantines are a big issue,” Waller said. “We actually have a higher number of quarantines at this point in the school year than we did at our peak last school year and we’re pretty sure the reason for that is we are no longer able to social distance in schools. When the South Carolina legislature signed a joint resolution requiring school districts like ours to require 5-days a week, in-person instruction no matter what, that put us in a situation where we have more bodies in school than ever before and under those circumstances we can no longer guarantee social distancing of three feet or six feet.”Waller said there are a number of teachers also out with COVID-19 or in quarantine. “We’re having to reach deep into our stable of substitute teachers, we have a large number of subs and we’re utilizing them a lot this year just as we did last year,” Waller said. So far this school year, there are fewer COVID-19 cases among students and staff compared to the peak in January, Waller said.
